Athinios is the main port of Santorini. The port is situated approximately 10 kilometers from the capital Fira, at the bottom of the caldera. There are a large amount of ferry boats that arrive and depart from Athinios daily as it provides connection to multiple ports of Greece, such as Athens and other Cycladic islands. There are regular buses and taxis that lead you to Fira and the rest of the settlements, beaches and attractions of the island. Additionally, you can find various car rental services if you wish to explore Santorini in a more convenient way. The road that connects Athinios with the main island is narrow and winding.
